Empower travelers to plan a trip in an effortless way and evolve it along the journey way
DESIGN WITH EMPATHY
TripFlow is an independent design project that Junchao and I initiated at the beginning of 2016. We took a participatory and iterative design approach while we were actually planning and doing our trip in Japan. We explored our painpoints, brainstormed for our experience, and tested ideas in our real trip. The project and its outcome revealed the value of empathy to us.
UNCOVER THE PAIN OF PLANNING A TRIP
PAINPOINT 1 – WE ARE LOST IN TOO MANY OPTIONS
PAINPOINT 2 – PLAN ≠ REALITY
Over the years of experiencing traveling in different countries, we have realized that enormous amount of time were spent on planning a journey. We browse through dozens of website, read many travel guidebook, talked with friends and bloggers who have been to those places. in fact, we are lost in options. Simply too much. Nevertheless, the way to plan a trip may not be updated with how fast things change in reality. Plus, having a strict planning might take away the fun of exploration. Planning seems tiring and meaningless.
DESIGN ON THE GO
We asked ourselves, "How might we plan a trip in an effortless way and can evolve along the journey?"
With this challenge in mind, we flew to Japan and started designing on the go. Everything we experienced and observed became food for thoughts. Every waiting moment at restaurants and museums became quick ideation session. Empathy was maximized in environments like that. Because we were right there in the context.
TripFlow is a service that enables you to make a quick plan with just a few clicks. Choosing preferred locations, setting a rough agenda, filtering interesting spots and activities, all the choices are offered based on timely and most relevant data. As the trip starts, the agenda keeps adapting itself based on several key environmental factors such as weather, transportation, open hours and locations. You will be inspired and encouraged to explore more about your surroundings with the help of smart notifications.
BEHIND THE SCENE
We love telling the story with videos. The TripFlow video was scripted and shot in Japan. It offered us the opportunity to be the screenwriter, the director and the storyteller. It was indeed a fascinating experience.
